Comparison

For those that do not know, the internet is blooming as we speak with new data, and pretty soon it may take over the original ways of finding information. The movies that we watched in class, made me really think about life in that aspect of a virtual world. Until I got into this class I never took the time out to make inquiries and observe how much the internet really is beneficial compared to the original methods of getting valuable information. Well, right now I am going to compare /contrast the internet and print.

When using the internet you are able to access valuable information in a timely manner. If you wanted to send a message to a friend that lives/ works in Afghanistan that you never get to see only on Christmas, all you need is that person or businesses email address and they will receive it that day, and you didn’t even have to pay for a stamp, over night delivery, or an international call. With a computer you can make and receive invitations, post cards for special occasions, print out billing statements, make payments, create a calendar and manage it , buy/sell things online, look up research projects, make/ observe pamphlets. The internet is a valuable tool to encompass, but having the old style of ways of doing things is still alright, some may argue that it is the best way to go period.

Sending off a hand written message or post card through the mail service to a friend that lives far away that you don’t get to articulate to that often enables you to sit down and think about what you really want to say to this person, where in the internet you can move at a way faster pace. Having regular mail, postcards, and bills delivered to your residency I guess, gives you time to think when the mail deliverer will come with what you are waiting for. Not using the internet when it comes to buying things just means that you have to go out and get that merchandise, which may be a better rout to go, since then you will be able to look at what you want to buy, ask questions to a human being face to face, you as well get to make your payment in person, you now how a lower chance of getting any of your personal information received by a complete stranger.

I personally believe that the internet is the best way to go, when it comes to communicating, paying/ shopping and researching. Having the internet for school really is beneficial; it sure beats the hell out of copying out of a book for facts. I am open ears to learn about the internet and how it is growing. Here goes a question to all of you; if the internet takes over do you think that businesses will run through the web, not in person any longer?

Regarding your question, I think it's already started--there are plenty of businesses that are online-only (Amazon, eBay, etc) and never require even a phone call. Even though there are certain things that just can't go online yet and still require person-to-person contact (ie: hospitals) I wouldn't be surprised if someday my great grandkids had a chip imbedded in their brains. It's becoming so useful that most of us hate going without the internet once we start using it often. I hate having to find a dictionary to find a word or look up research books for something I just want a quick understanding of. When I want to buy something like a camera or a computer accessory I just do a search on google to compare prices to get an idea of the lowest I might find in a store (and to get an idea of how well it works with customer reviews at places like circuitcity.com). Everything that can go online is or is trying to get there a we speak (going back to the hospitals thing, we communicate with doctors online already and complete symptom checkers to try to self-diagnose basic ailments). But people need a secure income and until everyone is in love with an online career, some businesses will have to stay on this side of the computer screen.
